when in LA: sqirl in silver lake
Sqirl is everywhere these days: from an inspired sundae at Morgenstern's to a photo spread in Bon Appetit and jam at Steven Alan, the LA spot is spreading beyond its Silver Lake roots. But given the chance to visit the homestead: go. Go twice. Go three times! My brief breakfast-lunch there could not have been more delightful: from the famous sorrel rice bowl, with hotsauce, feta, radish, and a perfect egg, to their hunks of toasted brioche slathered in ricotta and kumquat preserves to the impeccable dessert selection, this is a place where you could happily start your day (with a creamy iced cappuccino or carafe of coffee), and continue your day, and return the next day.
